The Invisible Cities: "Inferno"

And Polo said: "The inferno of the living is not something that will be; if there is one, it is what is already here, the inferno where we live every day, that we form by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of the inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space."

  1. i've been visiting your blog for a month now. you completely lose me from time to time but when you do hit the spot (like the last two posts) it's amazing. Your sense of the image aligned or contradicted to the text is fascinating most of the times! I'm sure you're trying to formulate an urban theory but you're not quite there yet, am I right? Anyway keep on reading Calvino and you'll find it for sure, and if you don't don't worry. You've already gained and achieved with this really beautiful blog. Keep up the good work

  2. actually you are right and not! Not in the sense of academic theory that is. But I am influenced a lot by Calvino, Vertov as well as urban music, film and photography. Lately, I'm trying to locate the 'city symphonies' documentaries from late 20s early 30s and upload clips on this blog. Thx 4 the nice words
